Who is eligible to stay at Hale Koa Hotel?
There are strict federally mandated regulations requiring eligibility. Before seeking a reservation at Hale Koa Hotel, please review more information about eligibility policies.

Are Veterans that did not retire from military service eligible to stay at the Hale Koa Hotel?
Veterans who qualify under the Disabled Veteran Equal Access Act of 2018 are eligible to stay. Please check eligibility requirements.


The sponsor does not have to be present as long as the spouse has a valid dependent I.D. card at check in.

As a sponsor may I bring additional guests?
Each eligible sponsor may reserve up to two (2) additional rooms for your guests, for a total of three (3) rooms. The sponsor must be staying at the same time as their guests.

How many people can stay in a room?
Each room can accommodate a maximum of four (4) people. Children under 18 years of age are free in their parent's room. After the first two (2) adults, a $15 charge will be applied to guests 18 years and older. Cribs are available, but rollaway beds and cots are not available.

How much does it cost to stay at Hale Koa Hotel?
Rates range from $184 to $410 per night (current rates valid until September 30, 2024), Single/Double occupancy, based on rank and room category. There are no taxes or daily resort fee incurred with room rate.

How far in advance are reservations accepted?
Reservations are accepted up to 365 days before your arrival date.

What is the room cancellation policy?
There is a 30 day prior to arrival cancellation policy to receive a refund. If the cancellation is less than 30 days prior to arrival due to a military obligation or a medical reason, appropriate documentation must be presented for a refund of the one night deposit.

When is the best time of the year to secure a reservation at the Hale Koa Hotel?
Visiting from September through mid-December is your best bet. Also, for best availability, reservations should be made at least six (6) months in advance.

What if a room at the Hale Koa Hotel is not available when I want to visit Hawaii?
If a room is not available during the time you’d like to visit, please check back periodically. We can help connect you to nearby hotels with special rates, based on availability. Remember, even if you stay at a different property, the Hale Koa Hotel’s dining venues and events are still benefits available to you as an eligible guest.

What is the difference between the various room categories?
Rooms are generally the same size (approximately 300 square feet) and offer the same amenities. Categories differ by the view from the room's lanai (balcony). Rooms are furnished with various types of bed configurations, and you can request your preference when you make your reservation. While we make every effort to accommodate special requests, these requests cannot be guaranteed.

I like staying in a certain tower/floor/bed size. Can you accommodate special requests?
We attempt to honor special requests. However, reservations are confirmed by room category only. Requests such as tower preference, bed type, connecting, or adjoining rooms, or a specific room number cannot be guaranteed. A $75.00 room move fee will be assessed for each room move following check in.

Does the Hale Koa Hotel have wheelchair accessible guest rooms?
Please contact our Reservations Department at 1-800-367-6027 or 808-955-0555 to arrange for a wheelchair accessible guest room. If  medical equipment such as a Hoyer Lift will be used, please inform our Reservations Department.

What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in time is after 3:00 p.m. If you arrive early, every effort will be made to accommodate you. The Bell Desk can store your luggage until your room is available. Check-out time is 11:00 a.m. The Bell Desk can store your luggage until you are ready to depart. You may request a late check out through the Reception Desk on the morning of departure, based upon availability and is not guaranteed.

Hale Koa Hotel smoking policy  
The Hale Koa Hotel is a non-smoking facility to include electronic cigarettes in all guest rooms, lanais (balconies) and public spaces. There are no designated smoking guest rooms. A $500.00 cleaning fee will be assessed and possible eviction for smoking in the guestroom and balcony. Sponsors are responsible for informing their guests of the no smoking policy.

Hale Koa Hotel pet policy
The Hale Koa Hotel complies with state and local health regulations as well as federal ADA regulations.  No Pets Allowed except for Service Animals.  “Service Animals” means any animal trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability.  Pets providing emotional support, well-being, comfort or companionship are not recognized as service animals under ADA regulations or Hawaii State Law.

Firearms and weapons are not permitted on the property.

Hale Koa Hotel drone usage policy
The use of drones (and all unmanned aerial systems) are prohibited on the property and including all park areas, without the written authorization from Hale Koa Hotel Management. This prohibition extends to any drone launched or operated within Fort DeRussy boundaries.

What are the guestroom amenities?
Hale Koa Hotel Guestrooms are comfortable and thoughtfully and tastefully appointed in a refined and restful color palette. All rooms are equipped with central air conditioning, a Bluetooth speaker/alarm clock (with 2 110v power sockets and 2 USB charging ports), flat-screen TV, telephone messaging system, in-room security safe, iron/board, hair dryer, coffee service, a mini cooler, and free internet service.

Is there a microwave available for guest use?
A microwave is located on every guest floor in the Maile Tower, and on every floor from the fourth floor and above in the Ilima Tower.

Can I bring a coffee maker or other small appliances to use in the room?
No. Personal electrical items, such as cooking appliances and coffee makers are not permitted for use in guest rooms.

Are candles permitted in guest rooms?
No candles/flame - lighting/burning is permitted within guest rooms.

Is there a laundry room available for guests?
Hale Koa Hotel has credit card operated laundry rooms on every floor in the Maile Tower, and on every floor from the fourth floor and above in the Ilima Tower. You’ll find credit card operated laundry supplies available for purchase there or in the PX, located on the ground level of the Ilima Tower.

Can I store large items during my stay?
Hale Koa Hotel does not have storage facilities for large, bulky items such as paddleboards, surfboards, or canoes. Please make arrangements before your arrival for handling these items at a site off property, or consider renting your water sport equipment from our beach rentals concession.

Can I purchase an amenity for myself or a guest to be delivered to the room?
Please contact the Hotel Operator for assistance at 808-955-0555. Our staff will be happy to assist with fruit baskets, champagne or wine to be be delivered to a guest room.

Does Hale Koa Hotel offer high-speed internet access?
Free high-speed WiFi is available in guestrooms, as well as the Ilima Tower Lobby and the Main Pool areas.

Is there a kiosk to print boarding passes?
There are boarding pass kiosk located in the Ilima Tower Lobby.

Are day passes for the pool available for purchase?
No, the hotel swimming pools are amenities for registered hotel guests only.

Can I pay with my Military Star Card?
We accept the Military Star Card along with all major credit cards for all services and venues. If you are trying to use a Military Star Card for the deposit of your room, please contact an agent for assistance with this transaction at the time of booking your reservation.

Where can I purchase convenience items, souvenirs, snacks, sunscreen and toiletries?
An AAFES Exchange is located on the ground level of the Ilima Tower available to all registered guests. Tobacco and alcohol may only be purchased with a valid military ID. For hours of operation CLICK HERE

Am I able to have friends and family visit me during my stay?
Registered guests are able to have visitors. The visitors are able to attend Food & Beverage venues and special events. Only registered guests may use the swimming pools and fitness center.

How do I arrange for a professional photography session on the grounds of the resort during my stay?
All professional photography sessions conducted on Hale Koa Hotel grounds or on Ft. DeRussy to include the park space requires prior arrangements with the  Catering Department.  Please contact Catering at 808-955-9612 in advance. There is no fee. Must be a registered guest of the Hale Koa Hotel. The Hale Koa does not have an in-house photographer, nor endorses any photographer.

Who do I contact for lost and found articles?
Please let us know if you’ve lost something. Include your name, dates of stay, room number and a detailed description of item. Or, you may contact our Lost and Found Department at 808-955-0555 or use the form on the contact us page. Also, note that we charge a shipping and handling fee for return items.

Where can I go for medical attention?
Contact the Hotel Assistant Managers for information on local walk-in clinics. For more serious health issues there are local hospitals to include Tripler Army Medical Center.

If I am not staying at Hale Koa Hotel, may I still use the hotel amenities and purchase tickets to events?
Hale Koa Hotel amenities (restaurants, bars, shows and events) are available for eligible users and sponsored guests as your benefit. However the swimming pools and fitness center are for the use of registered hotel guests only. Read more about eligibility requirements and Hale Koa Hotel events.

Is there parking available for Hale Koa Hotel Guests?
Parking is available in the parking garage located across the street from the Hale Koa Hotel, and an additional lot across from the Army Museum at the corner of Saratoga Road and Kalia Road. You can read more about parking rates and policies on our Parking page.

Is there an airport shuttle for Hale Koa Hotel Guests?

Is there public transportation available near Hale Koa Hotel?
